…I met a really interesting young guy the other day when I was sitting outside. He was from Germany and we struck up a conversation (with his perfect English) about politics—especially international politics. He had a really interesting perspective on the United States role in the international world. He made the argument that the US should be proud of the conflicts it engages in and not take too much note of the European outcries simply because Europe expects the US to “do it’s dirty work.” Although I don’t necessarily believe everything he said, it was a really interesting perspective and gave me a lot of food for thought. It’s nice to be in a place where conversations between extremely diverse groups of people can be struck up in no time. I feel bad sometimes here that I only speak English so it limits the amount of people I can talk to significantly. I’m very thankful at least I can communicate in Spanish so that opens up some doors…
