Debbie Westman

I am currently a junior at Xavier University, and I am a junior in the nursing department. I am originally from Columbus, Ohio, and I moved to Cincinnati to attend school.
My research for the Bruggeman Fellowship is centered on the idea that globalization has caused many positives and negatives in our world. Many countries have been greatly assisted technologically, politically, and industrially; however, many developing countries still lack the ability to protect their people from infectious diseases that are easily curable. The main reason for the inability to provide health care is that many of these countries lack the resources to do so. As a nursing major, I have been exposed and will continue to be exposed to curing and preventing infectious diseases. By comparing the clinical scene here in the United States to a developing country, I hope to bring light onto the issue of the inequalities people face daily.
